Low Elo Podcast EP. 34 - Spin To Win

On this episode of Low Elo, Jeff, Dave, Christian and Rin get together and make silly noises at eachother. Those noises sometimes sound almost like conversation centered around IGN's latest tournament, disciplinary action in eSports, garen and all things initiating.

Send us comments, stories and more (including pickup lines for this week's game) at team@lowelo.com.

Thanks for listening and see you next week!

Single elimination would be terrible for League tourney’s because cheese strats that only work once could lead to top teams getting eliminated.
“Don’t use all your abilities just because you can.” It took me months to understand this lesson…

Double elimination in this form necessarily makes the losers play a lot of games. The question that you need to ask is, do we want less games to be a built in advantage for staying in the winners bracket. If you want to even things out game number wise, one solution would be to go world cup style. In other words, start with round robin groups. Use that to determine top 4. Then move into longer series, say best of 5. Here, the better teams have the opportunity to play less games if they win faster, earning more rest. Teams would play as few as 6 games, and a maximum of 10 games after the group stage; if you were doing best of 7 games instead, you would have a maximum of 14 games.

Problems with this format: 1) harder to broadcast both at the same time. 2) Will generally determine accurately the "best" team, but all other places depend strongly on the groupings. This can be somewhat addressed by seeding.
